Pla(ne)t

Well... May 2010.. We all agree the theory of evolution, still. And we do believe that we have six senses and therefore we are the most advanced form of creature. I would like to differ at this point.

A sudden thought, giving birth to this post.. (Would try to translate my mind-map in to English.. Lets see how much I would succeed)

Note the title which is the compressed form of Plant + Planet. -> Pla(ne)t. As we all know the mother earth is shared by both plants and animals. (ya.. we, humans being the social animal!!!.. Joke of the millennium)..

Most of us looks at the plants like they are simpler systems than animals/ us. But if you think deeply, look at the power these plants have.

  • They have the ability to "manufacture" their own food (recall your school botany class photosynthesis, chlorophyll etc.). What a magical power it is!!!! Though it has been taken for granted, think of a scenario if humans / animals also  get this power of synthesizing their own food. No Jobs, No Boss, No attrition, No recession, No on-site traumas, No IT, No Studies, of course no blogs as well....

  • They are more advanced because they don't need to move at all; What ever they want, comes to their place.... I guess no other creature in the world can afford to have this luxury...

  • In the school days, i used to wonder how-come a tall coconut / palm tree is capable of raising water to that height... without 1/2 hp or 1 hp motor (LOL)... no energy constraints.... still don't know the answer... (read somewhere "cohesion theory" etc... over the head...)

  • Do plants have a conscious (?)... Do they talk with each other?

  • Trees live a looooooooong life. From wikipedia "The oldest reported age for an angiosperm(!!) tree is 2293 years for the Sri Maha Bodhi Sacred Fig (Ficus religiosa) planted in 288 BC at AnuradhapuraSri Lanka. This is also the oldest human-planted tree with a known planting date"

  • The growth of a tree/plant is not random.. They are controlled through a mathematical fractal .. (usually a complex formula).. where does this intelligence resides??? I wonder...
So next time when you look a tree, in general plant, don't disturb them... they are not lazy like many of us.. they are actively engaged in the tasks assigned to them...

The saddest part is how easily we cut them..

If humans are not there, trees would live.. But if trees / plants are not there no animal would survive..

Well, now I don't feel mankind is at the top of evolution ladder. Don't you ?

PS : This post might look abstract.. Nevertheless thought of making a post on it...
